Every day sophisticated new viruses, spyware and malware threats emerge o threaten client networks. In addition the increasing use of smartphones and mobile communication devices has dramatically increased the exposure of networks to threats within the network perimeter but outwith the managers control.
Many businesses are unaware of or choose to ignioe the threat presented by portable devices in their network until some event happens. While companies have firewalls, email and web content security few realise how easy it is for an employee to simply walk in and copy large amounts of sensitive data onto an iPod or memory stick.
The solution is endpoint security. Traditionally firewalls and centralised anti-virus scanning were responsible for securing endpoints such as PCs and laptops however endpoint security places the onus of security upon the device itself.
