As Windows 7 comes to ‘end of life’ on 14th January 2020 after a decade in operation, many people are left wondering ‘what does that mean for my business?’ and ‘what next?’. Well, we’re here to help!
WHAT DOES WINDOWS 7 END OF LIFE MEAN?
End-of-life doesn’t mean that you’ll no longer able to use Windows 7, but with support no longer available it does mean that your PC may be more susceptible to risks and viruses and there will be no assistance if you encounter any problems.
As of 14th January 2020 the following Windows 7 support will no longer be provided:
- Technical support
- Software updates
- Security updates
WINDOWS 7 END OF LIFE OPTIONS…
- Stick with Windows 7. Windows 7 will carry on working and you can continue to use the software, however, if the software is compromised or breaks there will be nobody fixing it. It is important to keep in mind that the lack of support can appeal to hackers and with no-one to prevent them they can exploit old software to get into the machine.
- Upgrade to Windows 10. In addition to the benefits and features that come with the software, most importantly, upgrading to Windows 10 will ensure that you are covered with security updates and support.
WHAT WE RECOMMEND
As staying with Windows 7 can leave you vulnerable, we advise upgrading to Windows 10 before the end of life date, as upgrades can take time to implement.
While there is an investment required to upgrade, it will financially be better in the long run.
